Design

This laptop has a sleek and stylish design that doesn’t look anything like Alienware’s other bulky offerings. It’s the thinnest laptop by Alienware on this list. It features a 15.6” FHD display with a staggering 144Hz refresh rate.

M15 offers three USB-A 3.1 ports, Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet port, a headset jack, a microphone jack, and Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier Port to connect external GPUs.

The fan vents are present just below the hinge, and they perform really well. I never experienced any throttling during my usage. The fans remain as silent as possible, even on the most intensive tasks.
The keyboard present on this laptop is very clicky and registers keystrokes quickly without putting much pressure. It’s great for your standard typing tasks as well as gaming.

Hardware

This laptop comes with a 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H CPU, which performs really well and remains as efficient as possible. The GPU featured on this laptop is RTX 2060, which is known for its Ray Tracing Capabilities.

This laptop also features a 512GB SSD and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

Performance and Gaming

The gaming performance of this laptop is really great. Games like Fortnite and CS-GO can achieve up to 300 FPS on maximum settings without any hiccups. AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and COD: MW run on medium to high settings at above 70 FPS.

The overall gaming performance of this laptop is more than just great. The cooling vent takes care of the heat dissipation, and you never experience any CPU or GPU throttling.

Battery and Power Consumption

The laptop struggles in the battery department and only provides a battery backup of 2-3 hours with moderate usage. You can’t play games on battery. Instead, it switches to the low-profile integrated GPU on the battery.

 Things I didn’t Like

The lack of an SD card reader impairs its ability to be an exceptional video editing machine. However, one can always invest in a USB 3.0 Card Reader.

Conclusion

Alienware m15 is a stellar performer when it comes to gaming. It keeps a distinct balance between functionality and looks. If you’re looking for a gaming laptop that performs great and holds a relatively simple aesthetic, then this might be the right choice for you.

PROS
  • Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU.
  • 512 GB SSD.
  • 144 Hz Refresh Rate.
CONS
  • Lack of SD card slot.

Design

Dell G5 15 features a somewhat blocky build that looks premium from all angles. The design is inspired by Alienware Laptops and features a cooling vent on the front. The screen on this laptop is a Full HD Panel with LED Backlight and Anti-Glare technology. The viewing angles were sublime on this laptop, and I had no issue adjust the hinge.

It features an SD card slot, headphone jack, HDMI 2.0 port, USB Type-C, and USB 3.1 ports.

The vents on this laptop do an excellent job of keeping the entire system cool. I never ran into any heating issues during my usage. The vents are designed to maximize the airflow as efficiently as possible.

The keyboard has a blue backlight, and keys on this keyboard aren’t the greatest of all.

Hardware

This laptop features a 9th Gen Core i7-9750H CPU that provides top-tier performance during normal usage and gaming. It also features a dedicated GTX 1650, however, despite being a few years old, it holds up pretty well. This laptop also features a 256 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

Performance and Gaming

Gaming performance isn’t great by today’s standards. For the most e-sport titles out there and indie games, the GTX 1650 really shows its horsepower. However, newer games might run into some graphical issues. These issues can be resolved by lowering graphical settings. For games like Fortnite and CS-GO, it performed really well and kept the FPS above the 250 at all times.

Battery and Power Consumption

The battery backup on this laptop is great. It offers around 5-6 hours of moderate usage. However, gaming isn’t a possibility while using the battery.

Things I didn’t Like

The keys on the keyboard aren’t comfortable at all. It is highly advised to get a separate keyboard in order to play games.

Conclusion

Dell G5 15 is built for casual gamers. It offers all the hardware features necessary to become your day-to-day machine. If you’re looking for the best dell gaming laptop, then this might be a good choice for you.

Design

This laptop is made from high-end material like magnesium alloy and copper. The choice of material gives it a distinctly sleek and premium appeal. The form factor is less bulky as compared to other Alienware laptops.

There’s AlienFX lighting present on this laptop that can be controlled using the software provided. The screen on this laptop is a 1080p panel with up to 300Hz of refresh rate. It also offers a maximum of 300 nits of brightness.

It features three USB-A 3.2 ports, Thunderbolt 3 port, Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet port, a headset jack, a microphone jack, and Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier Port to connect external GPUs.

The black vents for cooling are located at the front of the laptop. They do an excellent job of keeping the laptop’s temperature regulated.
The keyboard looks really unique and has AlienFX lighting all over it.

Hardware

This laptop features the latest 10th Gen Core i7 CPU that is extremely efficient and gets the tasks done in seconds. It is almost second to none. The GPU powering it is Geforce RTX 2070. This laptop also features 1 TB of fast SSD storage and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

Performance and Gaming

RTX 2070 shines throughout the gaming tests. It efficiently makes this one of the best Alienware laptop on this list. E-sport titles run mostly at 300+ FPS on maximum settings.
AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption and Battlefield V can be maxed out and still hit more than 70 FPS.

Battery and Power Consumption

The battery backup isn’t the greatest on this laptop. Most of the time, it’ll give you 2-3 hours of battery backup on moderate use. You can disable AlienFX lighting to improve battery life

Things I didn’t Like

The AlienFX lighting consumes a lot of battery power and makes it diminish quickly. It’s good that they can be turned off, however, if you haven’t installed the drivers for it, they’ll keep on draining your battery life.

Conclusion

Alien m17 R3 is meant for serious gaming. RTX 2070 is one of the finest GPUs available in the market as of now. AAA titles are a piece of cake for this laptop. If you’re looking for a robust performer, then this laptop might be a good choice for you.

PROS
  • Desktop Class GPU.
  • NvME SSD Support.
  • AlienFX Lighting.
CONS
  • Lack of SD card slot.

Design

This laptop draws it’s design inspiration from its predecessors and inherits various elements like large, bulky, and robust build. It features a 17.3” IPC screen with excellent viewing angles. The built-in screen also supports proprietary technologies like Nvidia G-Sync, which provides sufficient adaptability to higher frame rate games. Bear in mind that this is only a 1080p panel.

However, it supports refresh rates of up to 144Hz. This laptop has a rather thick aluminum chassis, which is prone to scratches. This laptop computer isn’t meant for portability by any means at all.

It features three USB-A 3.1 ports, Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet port, a headset jack, a microphone jack, and Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier Port to connect external GPUs.

The fan vents are well designed and work pretty efficiently. I never experienced any throttling in my entire usage. However, the chassis might be hot at times, but for a laptop such powerful, it is bearable.

The keyboard present here is a non-chiclet keyboard with a number pad on the right side. The keyboard supports RGB lighting and can be customized using the software provided.  The trackpad has a backlight as well, which lights up upon touch.

Hardware

This laptop comes with a 9th Gen Intel Core i9-9900K CPU and a desktop class RTX 2080 GPU. Having a full-blown Desktop GPU in a laptop is no ordinary feat. This substantially increases power consumption of this laptop. However, considering the performance it offers, this trade-off is kind of worth it.

This laptop offers desktop-class performance without compromising on anything at all. It also features Intel 620 UHD GPU for the less intensive tasks. It comes with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB RAM configuration along with 1TB or 2TB SSD options.

Performance and Gaming

This laptop is a stellar performer when it comes to e-sport titles like Fortnite and CS-GO. It easily crosses the 300 FPS mark easily on both of these games. I was able to achieve a consistent framerate of 75 FPS on Red Dead Redemption 2 on Ultra settings. The same goes for other games such as COD: Modern Warface and Battlefield V.

Video rendering was a piece of cake for this laptop; I was able to render a 10 minute 4k clip in just below 5 minutes. This laptop promises great productivity with hardware support available for most editing software out there.

Battery and Power Consumption

This laptop is intended to be more like a portable desktop than a PC. The RTX 2080 GPU won’t power on unless you plug the second cord in. On battery, the only GPU you can use is the Intel Integrated one. So, gaming on the battery is out of the equation. You can expect more than 2 hours of battery backup upon moderate usage.

Things I didn’t Like

The trackpad isn’t designed for anything more than using a web browser; even the indie games had an issue with it. The lack of an SD card slot makes it lose its appeal to the video-editing professionals out there since they’ll have to invest in a separate USB Card Reader.

Conclusion

Alienware 51M is an all-around performer that blows away its competition by featuring a desktop-class RTX 2080 GPU. If you’re looking for a laptop that can handle gaming as well as serious video editing tasks, then this might be the one for you.

PROS
  • Desktop Class GPU.
  • NvME SSD Support.
  • GPU Can be Upgraded.
CONS
  • Lack of SD card slot.
  • Not meant to be portable.

Design

This laptop draws features a rather compact build that presents the standard gamer vibe it targets. The LCD on this laptop is a 15.6 inch IPS 1080p screen. It has a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, which is more than enough for most games out there. The viewing angles on this laptop are also great, and I had no trouble using it on a regular basis. The overall build quality of this laptop is quite good, and it remains lightweight despite packing some serious hardware components.

You’ll find 2 USB 3.1 Ports on the right side along with one on the left side. It also features a HDMI, Mini Display Port, Ethernet Port, Headphone jack, Thunderbolt 3 port, and a port to connect external GPUs.

The cooling system in this laptop is fairly unique. During my usage, I never noticed any throttling of performance, and the laptop remained quite stable. However, temperatures tend to go high, but the efficient fans kick in once it crosses a certain threshold.

The keyboard present in this laptop is a non-chiclet keyboard which has RGB lights in it. The trackpad is responsive and supports various multi-finger gestures.

Hardware

This laptop packs the 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8750H along with Nvidia RTX 2060 Max Q-GPU.
This laptop might appear to be outdated for some of the tech enthusiasts out there but, Intel Core i7-8750H still holds its place in the list of most capable CPUs.

However, it features Nvidia’s latest and greatest Ray-tracing capabilities in the RTX 2060 Max. This laptop has 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, which can be upgraded as well as 512GB M.2 SSD which is also upgradeable.

Performance and Gaming

The Core i7-8750H might bottleneck the RTX 2060 in some newer titles, but it isn’t the case with all the games. Major e-sports titles like DOTA 2, Fortnite, PUBG, and CS-GO cross 300 FPS mark easily. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 might take a hit in framerates, but lowering the settings can give you the best performance out of it.

This laptop isn’t the best machine for video editing out there since it comes with 16 GB of RAM configuration. However, the performance was good, and it rendered the majority of videos in a matter of minutes.

Battery and Power Consumption

This is the department where this laptop shines. Nvidia Max Q GPU makes it very battery efficient and can easily give you over 6 hours of usage time with moderate use. However, don’t expect a spectacular performance without being plugged in.

Things I didn’t Like

The keyboard at times didn’t feel like a normal keyboard, and the keys had to be pressed very hard before they got registered. The performance of this laptop is abysmal when on battery.

Conclusion

This laptop features one of the best CPU and GPU combinations out there. It can handle all AAA games with ease, and e-sport titles are just a piece of cake for it. If you’re looking for a powerhouse that is lightweight and efficient, then this might be a good choice for you.

PROS
  • Nvidia Q Max GPU.
  • M.2 SSD.
  • External GPU can be attached.
CONS
  • Lack of SD card slot.
  • Poor Performance on Battery.

This laptop features the classic slim laptop design that is aimed at casual gamers and students. It features a 15.6 inch Full-HD IPS display. The laptop is constructed from high-grade aluminum and plastic and doesn’t feel cheap at any moment.

The right side features an Ethernet Port, HDMI, two USB 3.1 ports, and a headphone jack. On the left side, it features the power port, USB 3.1 Port, and an SD card reader.

The cooling system is basic here, and fan revs up to its highest power upon intensive usage. It is advised to use a laptop cooling pad with it as the cooling vents can be closed easily.

The keyboard here is a backlit keyboard, which works flawlessly and is really great for typing.

Hardware

This laptop has a seemingly old 8th Gen Core i5 CPU. It might be considered old and outdated by today’s standard, but it still holds its place in the budget gaming scene. The GPU featured on this laptop is Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti. It’s the mobile version of this GPU and shouldn’t be confused with its desktop counterpart. It comes pre-configured with 8GB of DDR4 RAM, 128 GB SSD, and a 1 TB 5400RPM HDD.

Performance and Gaming

This laptop comes under the budget category, and its performance shouldn’t be confused with the higher-end gaming laptops. The GTX 1050 Ti performs fairly well in games like Fortnite and CS-GO. However, newer demanding titles might require some serious compromises to the graphical quality in order to run smoothly.

Battery and Power Consumption

The battery backup on this laptop is fairly good and gives about 5-6 hours on standard usage. However, 1050 Ti isn’t enabled when on battery, instead it relies on the integrated Intel graphics to deliver graphical tasks when on battery.

Things I didn’t Like

The laptop lacks a USB-Type C port, which can be a deal-breaker for many potential customers. Considering by today’s standard, GTX 1050 Ti might be considered outdated.

Conclusion

Dell G3579 is an excellent choice if you’re a casual gamer who wants to enjoy a pleasant CS-GO match with your buddies. It offers great performance in relatively low pricing.

PROS
  • 8th Gen Core i5 CPU.
  • Ram can be upgraded to 32GB.
  • 1 TB HDD.
CONS
  • GTX 1050 Ti might be considered outdated.

Design

This laptop keeps a low-profile because of its sleek and stylish design. The build is relatively slim and lightweight at the same time. It features a 4K UHD OLED, which is simply breathtaking. The color accuracy on this screen can’t be compared with other laptops on this list.

It features 2 USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 3, an SD card reader, and TRRS audio jack.

The laptop is designed to be used with a cooling pad. Even when using a cooling pad, it gets fairly hot. The minimal design somehow compromises the cooling solution.

The trackpad on this laptop is fairly large and can be easily used for most video editing tasks. The keyboard is really comfortable and provides exceptional feedback.

Hardware

It features a 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H CPU with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU.
GTX 1060 Ti might come off as a weak GPU by 2020s standards. However, it holds up pretty well for most of the tasks. The 9th  Gen Core i7 CPU performs well enough and guarantees great longevity for this device. It also features a 256 GB SSD and 16 GB DDR4 RAM.

Performance and Gaming

For most of the e-sport titles out there, the GTX 1650 Ti handles them pretty well. However, for the most demanding games out there, this laptop isn’t the ideal.

The large trackpad makes it really easy to edit videos on this laptop, and it renders entire sequences in a matter of minutes.

Battery and Power Consumption

The battery life on this laptop is exceptionally great. It provides a solid backup for up to 10 hours without any issue at all. However, you can’t game whilst using battery power.

Things I didn’t Like

The GPU on this laptop is fairly weak, considered by today’s standards. It holds up well in e-sport titles but lacks on AAA titles. The cooling system on this laptop isn’t the greatest of all and often runs into CPU throttling issues.

Conclusion

Dell XPS 15 is a laptop aimed at the casuals. It’s not intended for dedicated gaming; however, for most indie and e-sport games, it offers more than enough performance. The display is vivid and one of a kind. If you’re someone who like consuming a lot of media content and play some light games, then this laptop might be a good choice for you.

PROS
  • 9th Gen i7 CPU.
  • 4K UHD OLED Display.
  • SSD can be upgraded.
  • Exceptional Battery Life.
CONS
  • Fairly Weak GPU.

Design

G5 15 comes with a 15.6 inch 1080p vivid, sharp, and bright screen. The screen has improved a lot as compared to the previous models. The refresh rate on this screen is good, and I didn’t notice any sort of ghosting throughout my gaming session.

The G5-15 has many ports for connecting to dock, peripherals, and monitors. Sadly, the power jack and other ports are on the back edge, which is quite frustrating.

You will find a USB 3.1 port and an SD card slot on the right side. The opposite side includes a USB-C port along with a headphone jack and second USB 3.1 port. There is a lock slot, an HDMI, a third USB 3.1, an RJ45 Ethernet port on the rear edge.

I wish all the gaming keyboards could reach the level of comfortable this keyboard has. The G5 15 has an island-style keyboard that is large and nicely spaced despite the fact that it has a full-sized number pad. There is nothing fancy happening on the keyboard. The keys are flat and black, giving the perfect amount of actuation force that is 66 grams, which makes the clickiness firm. The touchpad is 4.1 × 3.1 enough to execute gestures on windows ten like three-finger swipe to switch app and pinch-to-zoom.

Hardware

The CPU powering this machine is an 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8300H Processor, which performs up to the mark and doesn’t face any throttling due to heat. The GPU inside this laptop is the mobile version of GTX 1050 Ti. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, 128 GB SSD, and 1 TB HDD. All of those can be upgraded without any issue.

Performance and Gaming

This laptop handles all major e-sport titles like Fortnite, CS-GO, and DOTA 2 with ease, crossing 150 FPS most of the time.

However, on newer games, you might have to lower the graphical settings to get a playable framerate. Most AAA titles are playable on this laptop without major performance degradation.

Battery and Power Consumption

Gaming laptops are considered bad when it comes to battery life, but there are some true gems that oppose this cliche, and the G5-15 is one of them. This gaming laptop worked for 7 hours with nonstop web browsing over WiFi at maximum brightness. That might sound less, but it is way better than other gaming laptops that power down after a few hours of gaming

Things I didn’t Like

The 720p webcam in the G5-15 is not worth it. The image result is not anywhere near good. Even the budget laptops have a better webcam. The image that webcam produces is grainy, which can’t be used to host a stream.

Conclusion

G5 15 is excellent for an average customer. Most e-sports titles run easily on it, and the software support is up to date with the latest drivers. If you’re a casual gamer who’s looking to go portable, then this laptop might be a good choice for you.

PROS
  • Premium, stylish design.
  • Long battery life.
  • Vivid, sharp display.
  • Good graphics performance.
CONS
  • Grainy webcam.
  • Heats up quickly.

Design

This laptop follows your standard laptop design stays true to its roots. It avoids any futuristic gimmicks or stuff that most other companies tend to do. It features a 15.6” display with IPS technology. The viewing angles on this screen are nice, and I had no difficulty in moving the hinge to accommodate my sitting position. It remains relatively lightweight without compromising much on the connectivity features.

It features three full-fledged USB 3.1 ports on the left along with the power cord port, on the right side it features a single USB 3.1 port , an SD card reader and headphone jack.

The cooling system is a quite low profile on this system, and most of the time, you won’t hear it blowing up.

The keyboard on this laptop is a typist’s delight. Keys register easily without having to exert much pressure.

Hardware

This laptop packs a 9th Gen i5-9300H Quad-core CPU, which delivers decent performance and remains quite efficient at conserving battery energy. The GPU on this laptop is GTX 1050. This is the mobile version of this GPU and has considerable downgrades as compared to it’s counterpart on the desktop sector. It also features Intel UHD Graphics that help you utilize the battery as efficiently as possible. It comes with a  256 GB SSD and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM.

Performance and Gaming

For most e-sport titles, it can play them at medium to high settings. However, for more demanding games, it might be able to run them at the lowest settings. GTX 1050 is best for competitive e-sport titles like Fortnite, DOTA 2, and CS-GO.

Battery and Power Consumption

The battery life is great on this laptop. One full charge can sufficiently provide you with almost 4-6 hours of battery backup in moderate usage. However, for more intensive tasks, the battery backup drops down to 2-3 hours.

Things I didn’t Like

The GPU inside this machine is considered to be on the weaker side. Furthermore, 8GB RAM isn’t enough for most basic tasks out there.

Conclusion

Dell Inspirion 15 is a great laptop to consider if you love playing games like League of Legends or DOTA 2 in your spare time. It can replace your work machine as well and provide you exceptional performance.

PROS
  • 9th Gen i5-9300H CPU.
  • 256 GB SSD.
  • IPS Display.
CONS
  • Weaker GPU.
  • RAM isn’t enough.

Design

Dell went forward with a traditional design with this laptop. It features the classic dell laptop design that inherits the simplicity from its cousins. It sports a 14” HD-ready screen with anti-glare technology. The laptop is featherweight as compared to its competitors on this list.

It features one USB 2.0 Port,  two USB 3.0 Ports, HDMI Port, Ethernet Port, Headphone Jack, and an SD card reader.

The cooling system on this laptop is relatively basic and can be blocked easily upon placing it on a flat surface. It is highly recommended to use it with a cooling pad.

The keyboard is well-furnished, and keys register reasonably easily. The trackpad has a glossy finish and doesn’t irritate at all.

Hardware

This laptop has a 10th Gen Core i5 CPU, which makes it the latest CPU on any laptop on this list. The GPU inside this laptop is, however, Intel UHD Graphics. Intel has come a long from their early days of integrated graphics; now, they can be easily compared to the high-end cards from a few years ago. It also offers 16GB of DDR4 RAM along with 256 GB SSD.

Performance and Gaming

Buyers Guide

Best Alienware Dell Gaming Laptops 2021 Buyers Guide

GPU

Without being too technical, here’s what you need to need to know about GPUs. They are responsible for creating graphics on your gaming machine. Buying a gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU is very necessary because games are very demanding.

However, if you only want to play older or visually minimalistic games, then you can go with the low-end equipped graphics card like UHD 620. On the other hand, if you have the budget, then you can check out machines fitted with the top of the gaming pyramid RTX 2080 GPU. The RTX 2080 is a hero build to tackle ultra graphics settings, 4K resolution, and other modern features like real-time ray tracing at 60+ frames per second.

RAM and CPU

The CPU in your gaming laptop tackles all the calculations of games involving AI and physics. Most modern games out there are very CPU demanding. Your gaming laptop won’t deliver the best results if your CPU is the bottleneck. It is always preferred to have the latest generation CPU. However, going back, 2-3 generations won’t be detrimental either.

RAM is essential when it comes to gaming. Any laptop below 8GB RAM must be avoided at all costs. 16 GB of DDR4 RAM is the sweet spot that will get you playing almost all games.

SSD VS HDD

If you can afford to buy a laptop with an SSD in your price range, then go for it. The only difference between SSD and HDD is that SSD loads your games way quicker as compared to HDD. But SSDs are a bit pricey. But having a laptop with HDD is not an end of the world either. Its just that the things will slow down a bit. Whatever you may go for, just remember that your laptop has at least 1TB of storage.

Who said size doesn’t matter?

The size of the laptop decides if you can take it outside with you, or you are just going to sit at home with it. In other words, it defines how portable your laptop is. Well, if you need a gaming laptop so you can play games at your friend’s then find a laptop that is backpack friendly. Aim for a screen size of 14 inches or less for portability. Make sure to check the weight because you don’t want to end up carrying a laptop that is more than 5 pounds in weight.

On the other hand, if you are going to play games at home, then you can opt for the bigger screen of 15.6 inches and 17.3 inches and bulky design of 10+ pounds. The advantage of buying such gaming laptops is not just a bigger display, but it will also come with more robust hardware. You can utilize this extra force and play games with maximum power.

Display

The display of the laptop plays an important role in choosing a laptop. Laptops with IPS and Anti-Glare Technology are now getting more common than ever. Similarly, 4K screens have started coming on laptops too. However, it is still best to get a 1080p laptop to maximize performance.

Remember

  •  Choose wisely: Choosing the best gaming laptop is risky since most of them don’t offer any upgrades at all. It’s best to buy a laptop you know is future proof.
  • Don’t go for refurbished laptops: To save some money, don’t buy a refurbished laptop because, in the end, you are going to end up investing more money on a machine that is already used by someone.
  • Touchpad: Needless to say, no gamer uses the touchpad of a gaming laptop to play games. So for that, either buy one of the best gaming mice or an Xbox controller.
  • Speakers: Even if you spend your whole paycheck on buying the best laptop, that still won’t make the speakers of your laptop great. Buy computer speakers or headset if you want to experience the most productive audio experience.
