This page used to list ten gaming laptops under $800. In October 2026 we couldn't honestly fill it with one. Every new laptop with a dedicated graphics card that we could confirm on sale in the US costs $899 or more, and most cost over $1,000. Here's why, what the cheapest real options are, and how to get the most gaming laptop for $800 anyway.
Why $800 no longer buys a new gaming laptop
Memory. The same shortage that pushed DDR5 kits for desktops to two to four times last year's price hit laptop makers too. MSI told investors it would raise gaming laptop prices by 15 to 30% (Notebookcheck, March 2026). PC Gamer now calls gaming laptop deals under $1,000 "seriously hard to find" (PC Gamer), and notes that most RTX 5060 laptops cost what RTX 5070 machines did in 2026. TechRadar's laptop editor expects anything under $1,000 to carry an RTX 5050 (TechRadar).

The MSI Cyborg 15 at $899.99 is the closest any current model gets to $800. It's a sale price, down from $1,299, so if you see it near there it's worth acting on.
What specs to accept at this price
At the bottom of the market, three parts decide whether a laptop is a bargain or a compromise.
GPU: an RTX 5050 is fine, and its power limit matters more than its name
NVIDIA's RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 laptop GPUs both carry 8GB of GDDR7; the 5060 has 3,328 CUDA cores against the 5050's 2,560 (NVIDIA). TechRadar's testing puts the RTX 5050 roughly level with the older RTX 4060, which is a respectable 1080p card.
Look past the model name to the power figure, which laptop makers call TGP or maximum graphics power. The same chip runs faster when the laptop lets it draw more. In the table, the Cyborg's RTX 5050 is limited to 70 W while the LOQ's runs at 100 W; expect the LOQ to hold higher frame rates for its extra $99. If a listing doesn't give the figure, look it up on the maker's spec sheet before buying.
RAM: 16GB, and ideally two sticks
All of these ship with 16GB, which is enough for current games. Note the LOQ's single 16GB stick: two sticks run in dual channel, which can help in games, and adding a second stick later is a cheap upgrade once memory prices settle. Our guide to how much RAM a gaming laptop needs goes further.
Storage: 512GB fills up quickly
A few modern games take 100GB or more each. Plan on adding a second SSD or an external drive later; see how much SSD storage you need for gaming.
If $800 is a hard limit
- Buy refurbished from the maker. Dell's Outlet gives its refurbished systems the same limited hardware warranty as new ones, plus 30 days to return (Dell). Lenovo's Certified Refurbished laptops get the standard one-year warranty, upgradable to three (Lenovo). Last year's RTX 4050 and 4060 models turn up there, and that's where $800 stretches furthest.
- Wait for a sale on the Cyborg 15 or the Victus. Both have already been listed at $899.99, so a deeper discount around Black Friday is plausible, though not promised.
