Best Laptop for Gaming and School – Asus TUF FX505DT
This ASUS laptop marks number one on our list for all the good reasons.
With the standard gaming components, this marks one of the entry-level gaming laptops one can get. The amazing 1080p display and rigorous performance are few of the amazing features catching every gamers’ eyes.
Being budget-friendly (Under $650), a student can afford it pretty easily.

Designed for gaming, the ASUS TUF FX505DT has a Quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 R5-3550H processor keeping the performance game-high. This combination of CPU and GPU can be perfect for an entry-level gaming laptop.
GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 GPU
ASUS TUF has Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 4GB graphics card that makes it capable of playing all the modern games with 1080p and medium settings. The GTX 1650 is a newer lower end card by NVIDIA. It might not provide features like Ray Tracing and Tensor Cores, but at this price, it has still a better performance than the predecessors.
256GB M.2 PCIe Gen3 SSD
With 256GB NVMe SSD in tow, ASUS TUF has done a lot in the storage department. However, if you still think it is not enough, you can always throw some extra storage in the 2.5” SSD slot.
8GB DDR4 (2666Mhz) RAM
The ASUS TUF comes with a builtin 8GB DDR4 RAM.
In my opinion, if you want it for daily notes taking and presentations, it is more than enough. However, for the latest extensive gaming, I recommend upgrading it. The maximum RAM support for this laptop is 32GB, but 16GB would be enough to get you going.
With the built-in RAM, it is safe to say that you can browse around ten chrome tabs, open a few spreadsheets and stream some youtube videos at a time.
This gaming laptop looks smooth with a 15.6” 120Hz FHD IPS-type Display. The graphics are more on the natural side, which makes it a perfect candidate for playing animation centric games.
Also, the brightness is pretty amazing too. It can get a very bright, ideal for using it outdoors or really dim to enjoy your gaming session late at night without straining your eyes.
Battery and Portability
As always, gaming laptops don’t have braggable battery life. Similarly, the Asus TUF has an average battery life, i.e., 3 hours 45 mins that too under normal use. But at this budget, what else do you expect?
When it comes to portability, this laptop is pretty slim as compared to other gaming laptops, which makes it a good fit for a student.

MSI GF63 – Gaming Laptop under $800 for Students
The Acer Predator Helios 300 is a mid-range gaming laptop that promises a smooth 1080p gaming experience inside an eye-catching exterior.
If there’s one reason MSI’s GF63 didn’t top our list of gaming laptops – it’s the price range. The laptop is priced a little under $800, which makes it fall in the category of mid-range laptops. But surely, the experience you’ll have with this beast of a machine won’t resemble any other gaming notebook, and we’ll show you why!
With a 15.6” full-HD display, backed by the all-powerful 4GB GTX 1050Ti, your frames won’t ever drop. If that doesn’t rile you up, the laptop has an 8GB memory chip along with Intel’s 9th generation, i7-9750H 2.6GHz processor installed – which is cherry on top of all!
The design of MSI’s GF63 is a slightly brushed aluminum front, which adds a really smooth touch to it. One of the main features you’d like is how thin its bezels are – making the whole gaming experience life-like and realistic out of the box.
Though the description says it all, it doesn’t do this laptop justice if we don’t explore it further. Here’s a little more detail for you!
Features & Performance of MSI GF63
GF63 features a 15.6” inches or a 17.3” IPS-level, full-HD display. It supports a maximum resolution of 1920*1080 which isn’t too crampy and fits the standard you normally witness. One small thing that might bother you is the 60Hz display – which might cap your frames, especially due to the over-performing graphics card.
MSI’s GF63 features a hexacore i7-9750H processor, making it capable of churning even the most demanding processes ever. Although the processor speed is lacking behind most gaming options at 2.6GHz, it is still possible for you to overclock this to a whopping 4.5GHz. Ask us; the processor will power almost any end-users’ task without a sigh.
It goes without saying – the 1050Ti series is still capable of handling all new titles at high frame rates. When powered by a 4GB graphics memory, you’ll be able to fulfill almost any school project, browsing work, or game at ease – making it one of the best laptops for high school students!
Can you spend more? Go for Acer Predator Helios 300
A little on the higher side than the above-mentioned options, The Acer Predator Helios 300 is still the best gaming laptop due to the outstanding features it offers at such a price.
144Hz Display, GTX 1660TI 6GB GPU and Intel i7-9750H make it a beast of a machine …
It may sound expensive, but probably the best value for money you can get!
The body of the laptop is a mix and match of plastic and metal; the lid is all metal while the bezels and underside are made with quality plastic. It is neither too thick nor too slim (0.9×14.2×10 inches). Similarly, it is neither too heavy nor too lightweight (5.1 lbs), which makes it a considerate option.
The popularity of Acer Predator Helios 300 is justified as it comes with 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H Processor along with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Graphics. If not remarkable, then this laptop is good enough for smooth gameplay being a budget laptop.
The 15.6inched screen is full HD with the max resolution of 1920 x 1080, making it ideal for streaming videos and playing games. Also, the colors are bright and crisp. The matte finish of the screen cuts out the unnecessary glare and reflectivity, so you can work outdoors as well.
Gaming Peripherals for your Gaming Laptop
Despite having the best laptop in hand, you still need a few peripherals to really make your gameplay top-notch. Luckily, most laptops feature pre-installed windows 10 so you won’t be needing to buy separate keys.
Let’s really focus on the most important peripherals you should buy along with a gaming laptop.
Gaming mouses are specifically designed for gaming – higher DPI rates, more buttons, better grip. Their design is also adjusted so you can rest your palm without sweat or pain in the wrist.
With that said, the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is the holy grail of gaming mouses if you’re looking for one. It’s designed to fit all your needs – be it intense gaming or even designing.
You’ve just got a dreamy mouse, but it’s not going to serve you with full potential without a mouse pad. Pads give your mouse a smooth surface to work on and stopper on the corners, so your mouse doesn’t fall off the pad.
The Steel Series QcK fits perfectly in this case – fulfilling all these needs and having a smooth aluminum body with even lower friction on the surface.
Headsets are the third most important thing to get. If there’s a grey area between a pro and a mediocre player, it’s high-quality sound systems.
The HyperX Cloud Alpha is perhaps the best option for you – as it’s easy to put on, gentle on the grip, amazing sound quality, and a built-in equalizer – what else do you want? It’s perfect!
Whether you want a laptop for daily school tasks or for rigorous gaming, the above three options are the best you can get without burdening your pocket.
Make your decision and let us know which one did you find the best for you or if you have any alternatives as well in the comments section below.
